One question I get asked a lot is how I come up with ideas for blog posts. To be honest, I always have ideas coming to me (the real problem for me is deciding which one to choose first,) but I can understand the frustration of not knowing what to write about next (I've had other kinds of creative blocks before...just not for blogging.) Here are some things I do to keep ideas coming regularly:
Solve a problem.Think about a problem you used to have and how you resolved it, then write a post about it. This can be anything from a product review ("XXX conditioner got rid of all my frizz") to a tutorial ("How to pay attention in class") and can work for any niche. Chances are there are people with the same problem that you had that will appreciate and maybe even share your post.
Share things you like.Favorites posts are some of my favorites, but you can also highlight just one thing you like (kind of like you would in a sponsored post, but without it being sponsored.) It doesn't even have to be a material item or even another blogger: I personally love this post that Helene did about Taylor Swift and think it's such a fresh, fun post idea. What really makes this post special is that Helene didn't just list reasons she likes Taylor (although she's plenty lovable) but tailored the post to bloggers and what we can learn from her.
I get so many ideas from watching YouTube videos, reading other blogs and looking at Pinterest, Tumblr and even Instagram. If you engage with other bloggers while you're on these platforms, you can even grow your blog while you're coming up with post ideas. If that's not a win-win scenario, I don't know what is.
Share or report on your goals. Not only does this help you remember to make and achieve goals, it's also a super easy blog post and you can help other people get inspired!
Bonus! It's kind of cheating (not really, actually) but there are about a million blogs with blog post ideas. I have a bunch of them listed in my blogging resources post and I also love these two posts by Thirteen Thoughts (here and here.) Dana from the Wonder Forest also has a whole book of them.
What's your favorite blog post you've written lately?
