Post Christmas Gift Guide: What to Buy if You Got Cash

Saturday, December 26, 2015

Hey everyone, I'm back! The last couple of months have been really hectic with work and school, so I decided to take a break until I had the time where I could put up quality posts. With the semester and holidays over, I finally have that kind of time, and I'm so happy to be blogging again! I really feel like I missed out on the gift guide frenzy, but I got to thinking about how a lot of us get gift cards or cash for the holiday, so if you don't know what to buy, this one's for you. I chose three pretty common retailers and came up with some fun things you can get from each.

Amazon

You can buy pretty much anything on Amazon, but I decided to stick to a pampering theme because I think it's important to relax a bit now that the holidays and semester are over and prepare for next semester. (You can also use all of these to recharge once school starts up again.)

Adult coloring book (and colored pencils): I've keep hearing about how great these are for stress relief, so I finally purchased this one about a month ago. The designs are so intricate and beautiful, and it really is calming to just sit down and color for a while, especially at the end of the day (I love doing it before I go to sleep. There are a ton of these on Amazon (most of them under $10 too), so choose one you love and have at it!

Foot spa: If you're like me, anytime you're on your feet a lot (which can be most days when you're a student), they get really sore by the end of the day. When I remember, I try to soak my feet before I get ready for bed to relieve some tension and unwind a bit. I love the idea of a more salon-like foot soak in the comfort of your own home and this foot spa comes at a much better price than the other ones I saw on Amazon (but still has good reviews!)

Stress relief tea: While it took me a while to get used to the smell of lavender, I love it now and it is so soothing. I love using this tea to unwind at the end of the day, although you could also use it in the middle of the day to relax for a few minutes. I also love Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime (vanilla or peach flavors are my preference) before bed and Tension Tamer in the afternoon (although I wouldn't buy either on Amazon because you can get a much better deal at the store unless you want to buy a TON at a time.)

Bath Salts: Although I love bubble baths, sometimes it's easier to just pour in some epsom salts really quick (and you also won't get bubbles all over your hair when you're trying to condition your hair.) I personally like to use lavender scents for bath products (whenever I can find them) since the smell is so relaxing, but you can also get plain salts or whatever you prefer.

Ulta

Chances are if someone gave you an Ulta card, you're already a beauty buff, but if you're in a beauty rut, here are some products I love or have been eyeing.

Rosebud Salve Trio: These have the prettiest packaging and you get to try out all the flavors/scents with this pack. Between the cold winter weather and how easy it is to lose lip balm, you can never have enough. I like to buy multipacks like this and keep each balm stashed in a different place (bathroom, backpack, bedside table etc.)

Ulta Rose Gold palette: While I haven't tried every eyeshadow out there, I've tried nearly every drugstore brand as well as a handful of higher-end brands, and Ulta remains my favorite. Their colors are so pretty and pigmented. This palette is my favorite because not only are the shades so pretty, but there are also plenty of mattes to use in my crease etc. I love how many rose gold-esque palettes have come out lately (including Naked 3) because rose gold tones are so flattering on every eye color.

Soniclear: I'd had the same Olay cleansing brush for years when I heard of the Soniclear and finally bought it for 40% off on Black Friday. It was still a bit of a splurge for me, but I consider it an investment since I will be using this for years and it's still cheaper than the Clarisonic. It gets my skin so clean and smooth, and all my other skincare products are absorbed so much better each time I use it.

Tarte Amazonian blush: I have three of these and I love each of them. I prefer the matte ones, not only because matte blushes generally look more natural, but also because I feel like the formula is better. Regardless of your personal preference, pick a color and finish that you love and go for it!

Real Techniques travel set: I have fallen in love with Real Techniques lately and this set is so great, especially as a starting point for building your brush collection. I can do all my makeup with just the brushes in this set (although I usually don't, just because I like to incorporate my makeup sponge and highlighter brush as well). The eyeshadow brush is the best I have ever used and I can use for both the lid and the crease (although I make sure to clean it in between.)

Target

Target also has pretty much everything, but I personally love their accessories the most (I check out their accessories clearance rack every time I'm there.) It probably won't be hard to find something you like, but if you need some ideas to get you started, here they are.

Rose gold watch: I love rose gold jewelry and the watches that are out are probably my favorite because they still look classic while staying on trend. I also love an oversized watch, and this boyfriend watch definitely fits the bill.

Merona wallet: I don't know about you, but my wallets get worn out every couple of years and I always love the ones they have at Target. I love the simple shape of this wallet with the bold coral color, but if you're going for something more classic, it comes in a ton of colors.

Bow gloves: If you drive a lot in the winter, you will definitely need gloves when you're scraping your car and gripping that freezing steering wheel, so they might as well be cute, right?

Polka dot sunglasses: I recently got prescription sunglasses in a shape similar to this and now I really want a non-prescription duplicate. Not only are these way cheaper than the first ones I got (although my vision insurance covered most of the price the first time), they also have full UV protection so you can protect your eyes.

Plaid blanket scarf: I got a blanket scarf from Target last month and it is the best thing ever to stay warm when it's a little cold inside. Plaid scarves are so chic, so this is a perfect choice if you're looking for a warm, verstaile winter accessory.

Also, if you happened to get cash or a gift card you can use anywhere (like a Visa or American Express), Lush has a BOGO sale starting today, so stock up on bath bombs and whatever else you like! (At least, that's what I would do if I were you...)
